Food Hub - Grand Opening

On 29th April 2022 the new Garnethill Food Hub was declared open by three year old Morven and the Lord Provost, Phillip Braat. Many local residents, school children and local nurseries came out to watch the ribbon cutting ceremony, along with an impressive performance from our very own Hung Fut Lion Dancers. After the Hub was declared open, the doors of the Multicultural centre opened up to invite everybody inside to share a delicious community meal.

What is the Garnethill Food Hub?

The food hub is a partnership by Garnethill Multicultural Centre and one of our tenant organisations, CWIN. The Hub works differently to a food bank. Anyone can join the food hub by paying a small weekly membership fee. According to the benefits a person gets, people can take home between 5-20 kilos of food per week. The best bit is people can choose what to take, so as well as increasing choice (rather than handing out food parcels) there’s more dignity and autonomy for users of the hub, plus people can now have and cook culturally relevant food. In its first year, the Food Hub distributed over 10 tonnes of food to over 750 households. More food to people who need it and less to landfill. The Hub is open on Thursday and Friday afternoons.
